I tend to agree with Chris Hewitt’s thoughts that Goblet of Fire will out perform The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at the box office this year (Narnia is released 8th December). Narnia (boy is that a long title) looks good, don’t get me wrong, but the Potter films are well-established, have a recently fed and feverish fan base that is huge. The Narnia books (I didn’t even know there was more than one!) are accompanied by much less fanfare and have been relatively dormant for a long time. Having said that, if this one does well it may well raise its profile, and by choosing the best known book Disney are starting from a good platform, it may well blossom. I don’t think it’ll ever be as big as Harry Potter though.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 Review
Tuesday, July 19th in General
Warning: spoilers ahead. It did all end, and largely as expected, despite some fears the filmmakers would take a few too many liberties. The various crescendos of the books were duly included, their boxes ticked, although in some cases it was merely lip service. I suspect I am going to need repeat viewings to fully [...]
Rowling’s Wordplay

Wordnik has a nice little post which covers some of the clever wordplay, especially in the names, of the Harry Potter books, for example: A dumbledore is a bumblebee. Snape is a ship-building term that means “to bevel the end of (a timber or plank) so that it will fit accurately upon an inclined surface.” [...]
Awesome Alternative Potter DVD Covers

I have to say I really like the covers for a ‘Criterion Collection’ version of the Potter movies by Patrick Sullivan. They’re all good, but I think my favourite is the one for Prisoner of Azkaban:

So, the recent hype of Rowling’s latest work in the Potterverse is Pottermore. Interesting view, Vince. I’m off to see it in a couple of hours.
I guess we’ll see on the Narnia front, I think I’m right, but I’m far from infallible.
