Now, I like to think I’m a pretty big Harry Potter fan, maybe more an avid follower, I don’t own anything with Potter on except the books, a couple of soundtracks and the DVDs, so maybe I rank a fair way down the list of the most dedicated supporters. I certainly don’t match the level of frenzy described by Emma Brockes in her article for the Guardian. A couple of quotes that made me laugh were:
Such was the level of hysteria that the act of my writing down Natasha’s friend Lizzie Hill’s name provoked her to cry, “THAT’S MY NAME!” and a great scream to go up, which set off all the other screamers in the crowd and at least one attempt at a dog bark.
By 5pm [bearing in mind that some people had been there overnight, by 2:30pm the crowd was three deep at the barriers and the stars weren't due to turn up until 5:30], those attending the premiere began arriving and ostentatiously waving their tickets around. Fans at the back of the crowd tried to photograph them using their cameras as periscopes. With nothing else to cheer at, the safety announcement brought the house down.
