Goblet of Fire staved off any competition to stay at the top of the US box office for a second week, taking an estimated £32m ($54.9m). If the estimates are right for the five-day Thanksgiving weekend it’s set to be the second highest ever recorded. Not bad considering we’re supposed to be in a box office slump!

It’s currently ahead of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (or the Sorcerer’s Stone to everyone else) taking $201.1m compared with the earlier film’s $183m. Worldwide it’s supposed to have taken £239m ($408m).

It’s doing so well it’s being touted as the ’saviour of the box office,’ having dragged the results up over the same period last year.
