It seems that 2005 was a good year for the Harry Potter franchise and 2006 is shaping up nicely as well.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was the biggest selling book in the US last year, selling a total of 7.2 million copies (4.1 million on it’s first day). That helped the number of Potter books sold worldwide to pass the 300 million mark.
Added to this success if news that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was the highest grossing film of the year in the UK in 2005 and also made it into the top five highest grossing films of all time, settling in at number five to join Philospher’s Stone (3) and Chamber of Secrets (4). Prisoner of Azkaban is the only Harry Potter film not in the top five, but at number nine it does make the top 10.
So, for a series that has many critics who are happy to knock it it seems to be awfully popular.
