Characters and locations from Harry Potter will feature in a tale being told for those attending the Queen’s birthday party. The play, called The Queen’s Handbag is a 75-minute piece featuring live action and pre-recorded sequences, with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Thompson and Rupert Grint appearing on screen along with a host of other celebrities. Radcliffe will not be able to attend, but Thompson and Grint may be present, and Rowling will be there to read from one of her books.
In a piece about the party on The Times website, Sophie Dahl, granddaughter of Roald Dahl, talks about her grandfather and the influence he has had, especially the influence he has had on Rowling and is quoted as saying:
…JK Rowling has been very generous in acknowledging how she was influenced by him, and you can see it in Potter. My grandfather was probably funnier than her, and she is probably more epic, but it’s clear how like him she is in other ways. She’s interested in good and evil and, like him, isn’t at all afraid of the dark side of life.
