I’m not entirely sure I understand what Clive James is saying when he says that JK Rowling is the new Roger Banister. He seems to be implying that Rowling shows the world that we deserve the Great in Great Britain, we’re not a bygone force diminished after the loss of our Empire.
I’m not sure I’d completely agree. I think she did a great job of drawing attention back to us, but we have always been here, achieving great things but modestly not shouting about it.
