Instructions and guidelines on posting content to this site.

Anyone who has written Harry Potter fan fiction can post it on this site with. All that I ask is that you follow the guidelines below.

To add a post, you need to create an account (follow the link on the home page), then login and go to the Write page. To edit your posts at anytime, click on the Edit tab at the top, then click the Edit text next to a post.

Titles
Please try and keep your titles short and to the point.

Excerpt
Instead of having a home page and archive pages that go on and on for miles, I have chosen to display an excerpt of the post instead. So, in the excerpt box you see on the Write screen when you’re adding your content please put a brief description of what happens in your story. If you don’t add an excerpt your post can be removed completely from the site.

Post
Put the main body of your story in this field. You can use the Quicktags at the top to quickly add styling elements if you wish. To use them, place you cursor in front of the text you wish to style and then click the box with the name of the effect you want (see descriptions below), then move your cursor to the end on the text you want to be affected and click the same box again (it should have a / in front of it if it’s still open). Don’t forget to close the tags. In some browsers the text box will return to the top so you lose your place, if it does this, hit one of the arrow keys (left or right are best) and you will see your cursor again. Descriptions of what some of the tags do:

str: This is make your text bold.

em: This makes your text italic.

del: This makes your text appear <del>striked</del>.

ins: This makes your text appear <ins datetime="2004-8-25T15:40:34--1:00">underlined</ins>.

Pages
Web users don’t like reading huge blocks of text, so please break long stories into pages. To do this, place your cusor where you want the page to end and click page in the Quicktags bar at the top of the post box. In some browsers the text box will return to the top so you lose your place, if it does this, hit one of the arrow keys (left or right are best) and you will see your cursor again.

Personally I try and keep pages at around 1000 words in length.

Categories
Look at the right-hand side of the Write screen and you will see a Categories bar where you can select the category you want your story to appear in. Please pick only the ones most appropriate to your story and try and only pick one if possible.

Publishing your Post
To publish your story, simply hit the Publish button below the post screen. Be aware though, this makes the story available for all to see. If you want to look over your post before other people see it, hit Save and Continue Editing, you can do this as often as you need to and will keep you in the editing view but will save your post, it also means that if you scroll down the page, you can see a preview of the story and the excerpt. If you don’t want to publish anything, but want to save it to come back to, hit Save.

Editorial Guidelines
Please, please, please check your stories for typos, spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. These are basic things, just proof-read your stories before posting them and you’ll be able to avoid them. It enhances the experience for the reader if nothing else.
